In this class we will cover all the basics of flint knapping. We will show you what tools you need, from traditional to modern. You will learn how to use billets, boppers, pressure flakers, and ishi sticks.
We will cover safety and first aid as it applies to flint knapping. Safety glasses and band aids are a must. Flint knapping can be dangerous. In this course we will cover the conchoidal fracture, which is the key to predictable flaking. You will learn the differences between percussion and pressure flaking. We will teach you about platforms , striking surfaces, and abraiding. You will also learn hafting techniques so that you can attach your finished pieces to handles and arrow shafts. WARNING!! You may begin to feel a spiritual connection to your ancestors while taking this class and it may spur you to dive deeper into primitive ways.
